Cryogenic energy storage: economic issues and scientific challenges

 

From June 14 to 16, the IIR held its statutory meetings in the south of Paris at Lycée Raspail, a technical and professional college in energy and the environment.

 

Held biannually, the IIR welcomes statutory body members, the complete IIR STC (Science and Technological Council), comprised of the presidents of IIR Sections A, B, C, D and E, and the presidents of all 10 IIR Commissions, as well as representatives and delegates from the numerous IIR member countries.

The meetings presented a strategic opportunity for members and delegates to converge and debate on the future plans of the IIR, as well as to exchange on the key matters at the heart of their national markets.

 

Air Liquide presents insight on cryogenics from an industrial standpoint

In line with its policy to support international research projects, this year the IIR invited Mr Mohammed Youbi Idrissi, Life Science R&D Group Manager and International Expert at Air Liquide (France), to present and share insight on the cryogenic energy storage from an industrial standpoint, in connection with the European funded project CryoHub (see photo).

The presentation focused on energy storage through the use of cryogenic fluids (air gases, hydrogen, LNG) and presented the environmental benefits, economic stakes and scientific challenges of such a technique.

Participants included industry, university and national representatives who offered their own points of view based on their experiences and market environment, and put forward challenging observations making for a dynamic exchange.
